PROMISE and PROMISCUITY
A New Musical by Jane Austen and Penny Ashton
(New Zealand)
Thurs 19th & Fri 20th June 7.30pm $36, $32 conc
Flushed by twelve years of sold out successes from Edinburgh to Adelaide to Toronto, comes Miss Ashton’s collaboration with Jane Austen (deceased). In 2025 Penny is celebrating the 250th anniversary of our lady Jane Austen’s birth by rattling her airborne carriage across the Tasman Sea to Australiashire. Join Elspeth as she battles literary snobbery, cousin Horatio’s digestions and her mother’s nerves, armed only with a blushing countenance, excellent ukulele skills and being quite bright, you know… for a girl.
In this hilarious, one-(freakishly talented)-woman show, Penny tackles all of Austen’s characters with song, dance and appalling cross-stitching.
Having been performed over 600 times, Promise and Promiscuity has sold out audiences in six countries and gathered a veritable slew of awards and glowing reviews in its musical bonnet.

Get your skates on, Maynard presents XANADU
Maynard presents the second greatest musical from 1980, Xanadu.
Pre screening from 7.30pm of my mini epic "Beyond Xanadu" from my ONJ tribute show. I will try to explain the film and I will undoubtably fail. Bit of a quiz, lo-fi but unique prizes a possibility. Scholars of Ancient Greek mythology will be bewildered and confused but potentially entertained. Completely legit legal disclaimer: The floor is concrete, but the carpet and stairs may discourage actual skates. $10 at the door.

MAL WEBB and KYLIE MORRIGAN
Thurs 21st August 7pm $25
They are always entertaining and joyful, with songs that delve deeply into a broad range of subjects from science and sustainability to philosophy and beyond.
Their arrangements are intricate and playful. Imagine Einstein, Dr Seuss and Paganini making pancakes. Ebulliently eclectic. Nefariously varied. Family fun free from facile frippery. Their music stomps all over stylistic boundaries. It's as grittily human as it is other worldly, as clever as it is stupid, as playful as it is ponderous. Ballads, beatbox and beyond. Eclectic, ebullient and even educational.
